Design Dilemma - Kitchen Island

I teased this project on Instagram last week and received many requests for a picture of the finished product ( you GUYS!  I'm blushing...).  I wasn't going to post pics until the island was completely finished, but I guess I can show you a midway reveal!  The front is painted and the countertop is done; I just need to face and paint the sides and back, then paint the barstools.  In the meantime...here is the island countertop.

  1. WHAT?? That's your countertop? I thought it was some artwork that you were going to hang on a wall somewhere. That is amazing. I LOVE it!

  3. It's a piece of MDF, cut in half, then glued together. Then I filled the cut edges and sanded the heck out of the whole thing, beveling the edge as I went. Painted, projected the design on and painted, sanded and painted, sanded and painted, then 8 coats of Polyacrylic. Lots of work, but the whole thing only cost about $20.

    And thank you.
