Design Dilemma - The tortoise

Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Jacob took off a few days before and after July 4th to work on the house and yard.  (It occurs to me now that with all the yard work we've been doing I should be taking pictures there too.  Oops.)

Here is the entryway with the drywall up.  Next week we will take on the mudding and taping.

Here are my boys, hard at work, ripping out the floor.  We were just going to take out the vinyl back in the corner (more on that in a minute) but we couldn't get the baseboards out without removing the vinyl and subfloor first, which we couldn't remove without taking out the carpet first.  So.  We are walking around on our ugly, dirty disgusting sub floor now.  Ewwww!!  But, the carpet is gone!!!

Anyway, next problem is that back corner behind the door - where Jacob is.  We want to build storage there - floor to ceiling - as a place to put the vacuum, broom, garbage can on the bottom, and then things like the canner and grill on shelves up above.   Build out of wood like a cabinet?  Or frame and drywall?  Tell me your ideas!!

  1. Looking good. You might ask Wynn on some pointers on that corner. He has did carpentry.

  2. I'm just impressed with your progress. We start things then runout of time and never quite finish them. Life gets in the way and we just keep up with it~not the new stuff :)

  3. I think the frame and drywall would be awesome, but I don't know how time consuming or expensive that would be. Or how hard to find doors to fit!

  4. I feel like drywall would be easier and cheaper, but I'm stuck at the door. I just haven't quite pictured it in my head, yet.

Heather, that is so us too! That's why this is just now getting done. I figured if I didn't start, I'd just keep putting it off and never doing it, so I just started! Once we started ripping walls out, we kind of have no choice but to keep going...

  5. Oooh, tearing up linoleum is not a fun job. You're making a lot of progress though. It's so cool to see it happening. As far as the storage goes... do you want a door on it? If so, I would think building a closet out of frame and drywall would be the "easiest" at least to put a door on. (I'm thinking you would have to build a door for a wood cabinet?)
