Day 6, Saturday
Beef and vegetables. Today you may eat an unlimited amount of beef and
vegetables. Eat to your hearts content.
Day 7, Sunday
Today your food intake will consist of brown rice, fruit juices and
all the vegetables you care to consume.
Ok, so for those of you that were wanting to know what to do, above you will see what you are supposed to do on the last 2 days of the cleanse. In case you didn't already figure it out, I didn't quite make it to the end.
Saturday started out ok, but it is (and has always been) hard for me to watch my eating on the weekends when the fam is all home. I started out the day with an apple and a big bowl of the GM soup, but I was already plotting to cheat later, since James was having friends over and I knew I would be making cookies for them.
Then, I talked to my friend who was doing the cleanse with me. She had been really struggling and sick all week, and instead of getting better, it was getting much worse. We encouraged her to quit (she is wondering if she is hypoglycemic) and that was it for me. It crumbled the last bit of my resolve and I hopped right off the wagon.
So here is the breakdown of my opinions on this diet:
It was very hard to do the first 3 days. I was very, very hungry and a little weak, but after the 3rd day I wasn't hungry. I think that it was great for getting my mindset back where it needed to be. The difference between eating like this and how I had been eating was so stark that it was good for me to see just how badly it had gotten. I think it will help me to work more fruits and veggies into my daily diet and to think about both the amount of junk food I consume, as well as the sheer volume of food I had gotten into the habit of eating.
I also have now gone a whole week without caffeine, so now that I'm over the withdrawal headache, I'm going to try to stay off and drink a lot more water.
As for weight loss, I lost 10 pounds, but have already gained back 2 (I will admit to eating some naughty stuff yesterday...). Still, 8 pounds lost in a week? I'm happy with that, and if it stays off, that is definitely a win. Jacob says that my skin looks better and I do feel better - lighter. Not just the 8 pounds lighter, but my gut feels lighter if that makes sense.
Would I do it again? Yes, I think I would do it again...sort of. I can see myself doing a 5 day altered version of this every once in awhile to get myself back on track.
Would I recommend it to others? Yes, but with caution. I did fine with it (except the ability to see it all the way through) and I know others have as well, but my friend's body did not tolerate it at all. If you search the internet you will find similar reports; one person swears by it and the next person says it's awful. Know your body and quit if it isn't working for you.
Fair enough.
ReplyDeleteI'm on Day 1. I'll let you know how it goes. :)
I am considering NOT quitting my Diet Coke. I know, I know. But i'm not sure I can take the headache right now with the challenge of a new baby in the house. We'll see though. Maybe I can do without.
On day 3, it took every ounce of strength I possessed not to go buy a pop. I almost didn't make it through the headache, and I don't have a new baby as an excuse. I'll be watching to see how it goes!
ReplyDeleteDon't see anywhere to comment, but love your little green bird. Mom
